With everything bridal style moving away from lo-fi minimalist vibes to extremely additional wedding dress trends for 2023, the stage is set for a grand entrance by wedding earrings (especially when they are associated with the return of the bride’s chignon).

Dazzling shoulder feathers, brightly colored crystal drops, bold hoops and edgy bead designs are some of the bold wedding earring styles we are seeing now. Talia Massaroni, founder and designer of Canadian brand Olaeda Jewelery says we’re in a new era of maximalist ear dressing and says earrings are a bold way to personalize your wedding look.

“Your wedding earrings are a fabulous way to tie your whole ensemble together and are the ultimate finishing touch,” says Massaroni. “Right now we’re seeing a lot of longer and bolder styles of chandelier earrings, which I really like because they frame the face and give a layer of dimension to your photos. It’s also an accessory which you can have fun with, and many of my wives have experimented with colors and different shapes and sizes of chandelier earrings.

Below, Massaroni shares her thoughts on current bridal earring trends and some savvy shopping tips for finding the perfect pair for your day.

Are pearls still in trend for wedding earrings?

“Pearlcore is going to continue through 2023 and be very important for wedding accessories,” says Massaroni. “They’re classic and timeless, and what I love about what’s happening with pearl pieces today are the non-traditional designs and the shapes and sizes of the pearls themselves. The oversized baroque pearls, more large and irregularly shaped make the trend fresh and super chic.

What about bold hoops as a wedding earring choice?

“Hoops are by far one of the easiest ways to complete an outfit and a perfect accessory to complete any wedding look,” says Massaroni. “Diamond hoops are a way to add a touch of luxury and sparkle; but they can be very expensive. For a more economical alternative, consider cubic zirconia. They’re cut to mimic a diamond, so you’ll still get that brilliant sparkle and reflection, and they look extremely luxurious. Coming back to pearls, the pearl hoop is also extremely popular and a timeless and elegant accessory choice that really adds a romantic touch to your wedding ensemble.

Can you share some of your favorite dress styles and the perfect combination of wedding earrings?

“The key thing to consider here is the neckline of your dress and the construction of your garment,” says Massaroni. “The way you wear your hair and other accessories, like your shoes and handbag, are also considered. You want your look to be cohesive and polished, which means choosing wedding earrings that enhance your look.

For a slip dress, I love a long, delicate earring that complements the minimalist design of the dress and adds a “wow” moment to a minimalist look. For a ball gown or something with a high neckline, I like a shorter earring or an oversized crystal or pearl stud. An asymmetrical dress design looks amazing with a drop style earring that has a bold sparkle. A mermaid dress is one of my favorites because it’s such a classic and iconic silhouette. It looks amazing with traditional drop-style earrings, like our Princess Drops, which have a bit of movement.

If you choose to go ahead with your wedding earrings, should you be more discreet with additional jewelry?

“You never want to overwhelm the dress with your accessories — that’s a key thing to remember,” Massaroni says. “If you’re going for a bigger, sparklier earring, I recommend skipping the necklace to avoid looking overdone. If you’re going for a statement headpiece, I recommend a more subtle earring , like a beautiful nail.I always tell my clients for their wedding day look, less is more, and the focus should be on the bride, not the accessories!
