Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing one of her jewelry during a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In her first major TV appearance with Prince Harry since stepping down as royal family, Meghan can be seen wearing the sparkling diamond tennis bracelet that once belonged to her late mother-in-law.

Apparently by French luxury brand Cartier, the item was worn in public by Diana several times before her death. Harry is believed to have taken stones from the same bracelet to produce the engagement ring with which he proposed to Megan in 2017.

This is not the first time that Meghan has worn the bracelet, having appeared to do so during a royal tour in 2018. She also wore a ring belonging to Harry’s mother before the couple’s wedding reception that same year.

In the broad interview, which aired Sunday night on CBS, Prince Harry told Winfrey Princess Diana would have been “very sad” over the couple’s decision to step down from the royal family.

“I think she would feel very angry with the way this turned out and very sad. But in the end all she would want is for us to be happy,” he said. he said, adding that he “had felt her presence throughout this process.”

The topic of jewelry was also brought up on the two-hour prime-time special, with Meghan revealing that the Queen gave her pearl earrings and a matching necklace during their first joint engagement.

Nod to the past

Wearing Diana’s bracelet was one of the many style statements made during the interview, in which Meghan and Harry spoke about their decision to step back from the royal family.

Meghan also wore a gold and aquamarine necklace by British designer Pippa Small, who touts her designs as handcrafted and ethically sourced. The Duchess of Sussex, who is expecting the couple’s second child – revealed in the interview as a girl – completed the look with earrings from Canadian jeweler Birks.

Speaking to UK Town and Country Review Ahead of the couple’s CBS interview, Small said Meghan had “really helped showcase ethical fashion and jewelry by choosing brands like ours.”

“Meghan has raised awareness among a wider audience about what ethics means and why it matters,” she added.

Meghan has built a reputation for choosing ethical and sustainable brands. She wore a dress by Stella McCartney, one of the first responsible fashion champions, to her wedding reception.

She was also named 2019 most powerful chest of drawers by global fashion research platform Lyst, which said her outfits triggered, on average, a 216% increase in searches for similar pieces.
The black Armani dress she wore for the Winfrey interview is made entirely of silk and was produced in Italy. The dress, which is embroidered with lotus flowers, is describe by the label as “sensual with a subtle and refined touch”.

Cartier did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
